General Description:

Tax Equity Financing sits in Structured Finance under SCIB and is primarily responsible for transaction origination and distribution/syndication of Tax Equity products and other tax credit financing transactions for renewable energy and other energy transition technologies.

As an Associate or Vice President – Tax Equity you will be working as an experienced member of a deal team to lead the day-to-day and transaction.  The team you’ll be working on is tasked with originating and investing as principal in renewable energy tax equity and tax credit financing transactions that meet Santander’s profitability and risk targets and support the firm’s strategic objective to facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the negotiation, diligence and execution of Tax Equity financing transactions other tax credit financing transactions.

  • Interacts regularly with clients and investors to proactively understand their goals, their current performance, and their needs.

  • Possesses and shares with clients and members of the deal execution team adept knowledge of renewable energy and project finance credit risk.

  • Preparation of marketing materials and proposals, calling on clients, attending bank meetings, making presentations, negotiating for mandates, reviewing legal documents and negotiating with clients, structuring transactions, research, analysis of existing or potential transactions and/or industries, analyzing various risks and preparing credit applications and the development of cash flow models.

  • Originate new opportunities for tax equity/tax credit financing and distribution/syndication as well as obtain mandates and/or execute non-recourse and limited recourse project finance transactions or advising opportunities.

  • Directly accountable for managing transaction credit quality and its approval process through their interactions with the Credit approval committee. Also accountable for the documentation of transactions as a principal member of the deal team.

  • Delegate and review the work of junior members of the team and provide guidance and feedback.

  • Ensure compliance of all internal and external matters in accordance with banking regulations, bank policy and best practices.

  • Perform the necessary research and analytics (including financial statement analysis and cash flow modeling) required for the above.

  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in Finance, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or Economics or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.

  • 6+ years for the Associate level or 9+ years for the Vice President level of relevant professional work experience.

  • Between 1-3+ years for the Associate level or between 3-7+ years for the Vice President level of experience in commercial banking or finance industry with strong credit analysis experience.

  • Exposure in thermal energy, oil and gas, midstream, renewable or infrastructure debt or equity transactions is preferred but not required depending on credit analysis or prior project finance experience.

  • Significant experience in the analysis and structuring of highly complex transactions, including project-oriented energy financings.

  • Must have exposure to analyzing and negotiating transaction document terms.

  • Must have detailed direct experience of modelling and execution tax equity financing transactions in respect of both Investment and Production tax credits.

  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external clients and partners.

  • Strong credit and risk analysis skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to efficiently work on several priorities at a time.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions: Frequent Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing and walking. Occasional moving and lifting equipment and furniture is required to support onsite and offsite meeting setup and teardown. For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $175,000-$225,000 for the Associate level or $275,000 for the Vice President level. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
