The Difference You Make:
The Capital Risk function is responsible for identifying and assessing the exposure of Santander US capital to specific events or the combination of circumstances that may impact on its position or the quality of its assets. The capital risk management oversight team reports to the Chief Market, Liquidity and Capital Risk Officer. The capital risk function ensures that capital management decisions are consistent with Santander capital policy guidelines, risk profile and appetite, preserve Santander US capital adequacy, contributes on meeting its regulatory requirements. As an independent function from management, the capital risk function escalates to senior management any capital issue or deficiency, and review and challenge the management decisions associated with Capital, including strategic planning and budget, stress testing, and capital initiatives and significant risk transfer activities.
The capital risk function works highly coordinated with Global headquarters, and periodically interacts with the capital management team, corporate treasury, business lines, internal auditors, among other stakeholders, providing an active support of capital management activities throughout a collaborative and proactive independent risk assessment and oversight.
The Senior Associate of Capital Risk assist in the review and assessment of Santander capital planning and strategy, evaluate capital contribution initiatives, providing alternative views about potential risks to the implementation of capital initiatives in the budget/plan. The Senior Associate of Capital Risk reports to the Capital Risk Director and supports in the escalation reporting of any capital risk deficiency or violations to risk limits and appetite thresholds, evaluate and attest accuracy of capital risk metrics provided by metric owners and validate the capital targets under normal and stress conditions, documenting main deviations and provide justification alignment to business plan. The Senior Associate of Capital Risk review and attest RWA changes, analyzing drivers and explaining deviations of actuals from forecast; provides RWAs risk outlook and assess likelihood of materialization of business expectations derived from capital initiatives and market performance.
Monitors capital risk metrics and appetite, documenting limits utilization, breaches and follow up on action plans.
Analyzes regulatory capital reports, RWAs applications and methods under US Gaap and IFRS standards, assessing main differences, perform specific test to validate outcomes.
Analyzes and interpret complex data related to capital metrics and reports, identify drivers of variations and determine accuracy of reporting outcomes.
Develops capital impact analysis derived from new business activities, market or regulatory changes.
Documents review and challenge sessions and observations derived from capital planning, capital policies and stress testing exercises.
Maintains a log report of events that may require further escalation related to capital risk deficiencies or findings.
Analyzes with a critical reasoning the strategic capital plan and budget, validating business assessment and escalate unmeasured or unseen risks.
Reviews and assesses implementation of policy guidelines, evaluating its adherence, documenting observations and recommendations.
Reviews and challenges the capital contingency plan, evaluating consistency of capital management actions under contingency events.
Periodically evaluates capital rules and regulations, supervisory notes, and best practices to ensure alignment of Santander policy guidelines.
Performs regular and ad-hoc reporting to Global headquarters, senior management, and committees.
Contributes to ongoing initiatives and regulatory examinations, internal audit reviews and other remediation efforts.
Manages the capital risk escalation and issue management framework.
What You Bring:
9+ Years Risk Management/Controls - Required.
Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, risk management, or a related field.
At least 4 years of working experience in a finance related area.
At least 2-3 years of experience in a market risk or credit risk areas.
Experience with capital regulatory reporting is a plus.
Strong knowledge of Basel capital rules and US capital regulation.
Proficiency in basic software packages, including MS Office, databases (Access database, SQL Server, Oracle), and presentations.
Basic to advance knowledge in a programming language (Python, R, MATLAB, SAS, others).
Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to independently operate with and adapt to a dynamic and evolving environment
Capable to create productive working relationships across multidisciplinary functions, geographies and seniority.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, accommodating to business dynamics needs.
High initiative in developing efficient analytical solutions.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex data related to capital metrics and reports to identify drivers of variations and determine accuracy of reporting outcomes.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The base pay range for this position is posted below and represents the annualized salary range. For hourly positions (non-exempt), the annual range is based on a 40-hour work week. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
