Never let what you do define who you are. I let that really embed into my soul so I would never lose myself in what I do. And this spans from what you do as a career to who you are married to and the roles that we play as mother, daughter or sister. If you don’t know who you are and you wrap yourself in those roles and things change, you’re lost in the world.

Building on this progress, Santander has set a target of increasing the percentage of women in senior leadership positions – reporting directly or indirectly to the CEO – to 30% by 2024.

  • 58% Women in the Workforce
  • 24% Women in Senior Positions
  • 16% Women Directors on the Board

Magdiel worked with Santander Mexico on a digital loyalty project. The new initiative, called Marketplace, will compete in the open market with online retailers like Amazon, giving customers an all-in-one platform to buy merchandise and book travel arrangements. Customers can redeem SAN Reward points or use any credit card within Marketplace, as well as apply for instant credit or a loan.

“My experience with Mundo has transformed how I see digitization and helped me understand how to move business-as-usual banking to digital. I learned how to bring an initiative from the strategic planning state to full development and digital integration. I know for certain my participation in Mundo will harvest results for Santander US and the company as a whole.”

Doug’s participation in the Mundo program on the U.K. Libor transition team gave him a glimpse into what lies ahead for the U.S. Bank.

The London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor) is an interest rate benchmark used globally that represents the rate at which a selected group of banks are willing to lend money to one another. Libor is widely used by financial institutions to calculate interest and other payments associated with loans, derivatives, bonds and other financial transactions. The U.K. Libor regulator, however, has announced it will stop publishing Libor rates for British and most other currencies at the end of this year. The rate will no longer be available for the U.S. dollar at the end of June 2023.

“The U.K. Bank is going through the Libor transition before the U.S. Bank. Because of this timing, all of what I learned has direct application in the U.S., making participating in the program particularly relevant to my daily work."

As part of the Santander 2021 Mundo Program, Digital Project Management Associate Morgan Gatzemeyer worked with Austria’s Internal and External Communications Team. For her project, she helped build a brand strategy for Santander Austria’s Consumer Finance Business that could be used for internal and external communication channels, including social media.

“My favorite part of the project was combining my creative and strategic-thinking skills to redesign Austria’s social media strategy. Due to the difficulty of translating ‘prosper’ in German, I faced the unique challenge of aligning the social campaigns to Group’s brand strategy while also adapting to the local Austrian market and German language.”
