Describe the basic function/primary purpose of the position.

Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division at Santander is the dedicated business line to large corporations, financial sponsors, institutional investors, and financial institutions. CIB US’ Active Credit Portfolio Management (ACPM) ensures that the financial resources of CIB (namely Capital, Liquidity and Credit and Market Risk) are optimized by ensuring that CIB banks the right clients with the right products. CIB portfolio manager prepares proposals to CIB’s senior management on specific transactions, monitors the deployment of capital across the three operating entities in the United States, assists bankers and product specialists in the appropriate structures to ensure that profitability is maximized and supports other strategic projects for CIB in the US. ACPM is part of a global organization and as such, iteration with global headquarters at Spain is a key component of the success of the area. Candidates will be willing to work and think on a global scale and adapt to changing strategic and regulatory frameworks. The role will be an integral part of the decision-making that supports the bank’s business. It will drive strategic and sustainable regulatory and economic capital allocation across entities relevant to CIB US portfolio.

The role will encompass the following responsibilities:

- Capital optimization

  • Support the follow up of Economic and Regulatory Capital figures
  • Detect and solve incidents with regards to key profitability metrics RORAC and RORWA
  • Support the definition of a robust capital management strategy within CIB

- Portfolio Management – Information management and reporting

  • Coordinate the reporting of portfolio information and execute relevant controls on a daily and monthly basis
  • Integrate databases of Financial Control and Risk Exposure
  • Integrate the Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) information
  • Create management reports of Exposure, Income and RWA
  • Improve the processes in place to monitor the portfolio performance and the P&L distribution between product teams and the Loan Book
  • Monitor and improve the quality of the data reflected in global/local revenue tracking information systems and global and local credit risk systems
  • Develop and improve reconciliation processes, technology interfaces and data analysis practices

- Capital and Liquidity coordination

  • Preparation of proposals
  • Follow up of execution of business plan
  • Maintenance of profitability and capital calculation parameters
  • Streamlining of processes and coordination with credit approval process

- Other strategic projects. In the past the area has been or is still involved in projects related to Booking entity decision process architecture, IBOR transition, implementation of changes in regulatory frameworks

II. Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent command of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of SharePoint and database concepts a plus
  • Project management experience (consulting)
  • Academic background: finance, preferably Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Experience of 1 to 2 years in Banking preferably in Corporate & Investment Banking and Capital/Portfolio management related functions
  • Teamwork:

Identify the minimum education, experience, etc. required for this position.

  • Education: BS required (Mathematics, Computer Science preferably)
  • Business Experience: 4+ years of professional experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications: CFA preferred

  • Ability to work unsupervised for a large portion of the time, yet to be collaborative when necessary
  • Excellent inter-personal skills to build relationships with a number of people and groups at all levels
  • Excellent understanding of all current and proposed regulations in general
  • Strong and authoritative character and persona
  • Understanding of the CIB product set – derivatives, Syndicated Loans, Project Finance, Trade/Export Finance and Cash Management services, etc...
  • Very good written/verbal communication
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office suite, particularly PowerPoint Excel and Word
  • Ability to multi-task and self-prioritize a heavy workload
  • Spanish, a plus
