Summary

The Associate, Portfolio Management & Oversight supports the first line of defense by providing dealer support, risk mitigation, and relationship management, helping to ensure acceptable operational and financial risk, managed to the firm's risk appetite, while fostering and maintaining positive dealer relations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison between the dealer and second line of defense
  • Ensures business activities and operations are in compliance with applicable policies, procedures and/or regulatory requirements
  • Facilitates and improves the processes and monitoring of portfolios within specific risks areas (i.e., Credit) and terms of enterprise objectives (compliance and regulation)
  • Identifies enterprise trends, synergies, and opportunities for change
  • Identifies potential risks and assesses impact, probability of occurrence and timeframe
  • Implements controls and processes and determines resolution steps, with escalation and reporting as required
  • Investigates various risks, proposals, plans, and makes recommendations as directed by management or at own initiative
  • Maintains a strong rapport with local risk teams to create a strong risk culture of performance and accountability
  • Maintains abreast emerging risk trends and best practices
  • Presents comprehensive risk exposures and recommends process improvements and best practices for implementation to management
  • Shares knowledge with team to strengthen understanding of industry and business issues and best practices for implementation
  • Supports the dealer customer and provides customer service, helping to ensure customer retention, managed to the firm's risk appetite

  • Bachelor's Degree; Accounting, Business, Statistics, Risk Management, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field. Master's Degree; Accounting, Business, Statistics, Risk Management, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field, or equivalent work experience

  • 5-9 years of relevant financial services industry experience specifically in Credit Underwriting, Portfolio Management, Risk

  • Experience with Dealer Commercial lending strongly preferred

  • Ability to adjust to new developments/changing circumstances

  • Ability to analyze risk and design efficient control practices to mitigate risk

  • Ability to build and foster internal relationships

  • Ability to convey a sense of urgency and drive

  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines

  • Advanced knowledge of risk management best practices and how to implement them

  • Advanced knowledge of risk management practices, identification, resolution and implementation

  • Commercial awareness

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analysis skills with attention to detail

  • Detail orientated with the ability to also understand overall strategy

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to be adept in identifying and resolving complex risk management problems

  • Strong portfolio management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
